Walid's Fund - Be the Change Initiative
Thank You for Standing with Refugees
The Real Fix:
Walid’s Fund identified seven camps in South Lebanon where the top agencies once visited but then pulled out. These regions are “aid deserts.” Families and children – one half of the residents are children – have nothing to do but wait for hand-outs from the Lebanese Red Cross.
The Simple Remedy:
Occupational job skills training helps prepare refugees to return to Syria – to the cities, villages and farms they once called home. All refugees are waiting for the day they return to re-build their communities. Meanwhile they are living in concentration camps in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and other parts of the world. Walid's Fund is focused on South Lebanon, an area neglected by relief agencies, an "aid desert".

Walid’s Fund is Organized to Inspire Hope for Those Living in Morose State
We are carrying out a project that no one else has yet attempted in the Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon – to tap innate talent and skills and promote self-reliance and new enterprise within the camps. We believe in the power of the human spirit – resilient even amid great suffering.
A New Approach
In May/June 2018 we trained sixty-four Syrian refugees and in December 2018 the number rose to eighty four. All training was conducted on site in the camps where they now have job skills they can use to feed their families. Job skills included barbering, sewing, makeup and hair dressing. We trained the camp representatives to manage workshops for other refugees. We also started training eleven Red Cross volunteers to become future trainers and coaches in the camps and their Lebanese host communities.
